The health insurer AOK relies on T-Systems' Trust Center and has ordered security certificates for the introduction of the electronic health card for around 17 million AOK customers.
As of October 2009, AOK will introduce the new health card. The contract has a term of 30 months. Deutsche Telekom's systems unit will deliver the new digital IDs to the card management system (KAMS). Additionally, the ICT service provider will continually check the certificate's validity at the Trust Center via a directory and blocking service.
Protected from misuse and unauthorized access
Protection of the digital cards via five security certificates complies with regulations set forth by gematik, Gesellschaft für Telematikanwendungen der Gesundheitskarte mbH. Patients and member physicians authorize each other with the cards. This serves as protection from unauthorized access. If a user loses their card or stops using it for some other reason, AOK passes this information on via KAMS. The Trust Center then deactivates the security certificates, thereby making sure that the cards are not misused.
